We have been blessed with fine weather this week, but rain and cooler temperatures are forecast. The leaves have started to fall…

On our travels in town and beyond, we’ve been storing the fall colours in memory, and sometimes in photos, to recall in the drabber months to come.
Boston Ivy is an ornamental garden plant that is prized for its autumn colours and its ability to climb wooden and masonry surfaces without a trellis. This vine is at our favourite coffee shop in Stratford, Ontario.

The Art Gallery of Guelph has a sculpture garden on its grounds. Some sculptures are mounted on the building and are visible through the gallery’s windows. These images are just in time for Halloween!

Virginia Creeper is another vine that climbs masonry and other surfaces without support. It is native to eastern and central North America, but has been introduced throughout the world, becoming invasive in many countries. It grows rapidly, can smother small trees, and can be difficult to control or eradicate. Still, it has autumn beauty…

Travelling offers more colour at this time of year. These photos were taken from the car along the highway.

Of course, the best experience is to be immersed in the full sensory experience of an autumn walk.
Westminster Ponds Environmentally Significant Area
We took a brief walk here and loved it so much that we went back soon after. We’ll tell you about that another time…
Until then, here are some highlights of our walk.

There were Blue Jays and American Robins, but few other birds making their presence known except two Common Grackles.

Crows!
Wednesday, as I was working on this post, I heard the clamour of crows. When I went to investigate, I counted 18 American Crows perched in the trees below our balcony in Harris Park. There were probably more than 18. Glenn was out, so there is only this cellphone photo. The crows are the black pepper in the trees.
