Blackfriars Community Garden – August 1, 2023

Our neighbourhood walks sometimes take us to Blackfriars Community Garden. On our way along the river, we keep our eyes out for birds.

This handsome American Robin greeted us at the garden.

On August 1st, the gardens were in full bloom. Someone had even planted a fig tree. They told us that they store it inside over the winter.

Where there are so many blossoms, there are also many pollinators!

Susan and I had a great time capturing as many as possible. Count the pollinators in this photo.

There were several varieties of bees.

There was also a number of different wasps.

Weather Report

The weather continues to be unsettled with a recent violent thunderstorm and heavy downpour.

Swift Release Videos in Slow Motion

We were delighted to assist with the release of hand-reared (rescued) Chimney Swifts. They came from Le Nichoir, Hudson, QC, that morning. At a stop at Birds Canada in Port Rowan all 11 were banded and 2 were fitted with MOTUS transmitters that will track them for about 4 months. The first 9 raced to get airborne in open air and two needed encouragement.

The last swift was hanging on the door flap and needed a push. But it no time it joined its mates circling the field.

Music Videos

Here is a selection of early Linda Ronstadt on the Midnight Special. The first video was with The Eagles. Jackson Brown also attend that episode.

Much later with her own band.

Bonus performances

And very much later, from FM (a movie that died at the box office but sold a lot of soundtrack albums).
